Voting Event
Voting Event Types
Understand the difference between Election and Poll voting event types in Pepvote.
Before using Pepvote, decide whether your voting event type should be Election or Poll. The choice affects how voters access the ballot and which public links appear.
Election
An Election is best when voters are known before voting starts.
- Voters: usually known before the voting period.
- Voter records: voters are added/imported by the team or self-register when enabled.
- Authentication: voters receive or enter a voter key before casting votes. If configured, they may also need a Voter ID.
- Examples: board elections, executive elections, student union elections, club elections, approval voting.
Poll
A Poll is best when the public or a broad audience can vote from a link.
- Voters: usually not known before voting starts.
- Voter records: voters do not need to be uploaded before voting.
- Authentication: voters cast votes from the public cast-votes link. Optional Voter ID and voter-info collection can still be enabled.
- Examples: award voting, fan-choice voting, open community polls, public polls.
